God has chosen to show to the world the relationship of Christ to the church in the pattern He has established for the family. It is in the family that we learn to relate to, care about and help others. Family and Consumer Education applies knowledge from all other disciplines to the development and management of the family.
H 100 Family & Consumer Education (FACE) 1 credit This is an introductory course, based on Biblical principles, designed to give students a basic understanding of skills and knowledge in the areas of foods and nutrition, interior design, child development, clothing and textiles, consumer education and family relations.
H 105 Interior Design .5 credit Pre-requisite: FACE—1st semester Students will become acquainted with different styles of homes and consider factors involved in making housing choices. They will learn how to decorate and furnish a home and how to manage the daily functions of a home.
H 110 Clothing .5 credit Pre-requisite: FACE—2nd semester Students will study the history of clothing design, construct a garment and an accessory item using a sewing machine and a serger. They will also learn the application of various seams and seam finishes.
H 115 Foods .5 credit Pre-requisite: FACE—1st semester Students will learn how to plan and prepare meals. Principles of food preparation will include yeast breads, meats, pies, cheese, foreign foods and special diets.
H 120 Marriage & Family .5 credit Pre-requisite: Junior/Senior status Students participate in different classroom activities to gain insight from a Biblical perspective into adult life. Students examine family patterns and roles, identify personality types, consider differences between love and infatuation, and learn communication skills. Dur-ing the marriage section, students work together with a partner to deal with aspects of family life such as budgets, parenting, and household chores.
