Vocational Education Department |
The purpose of technology at SCCHS is to recognize and provide for educational abilities, needs, and goals for all students, through learning experiences which are valuable outside of school, as well as within. The intent is not to teach a vocation, or merely the skills necessary to obtain a vocation, but to prepare all youth to use all their abilities, interests, and goals in service to God.
I 100 General Technology 1 credit The General Technology course covers the basic technologies that ef-fect much of the world around us. Through classroom lectures and hands on projects, students will gain knowledge and basic skills in woodworking, metalworking, welding, internal combustion/small en-gines, and electricity.
I 200 Advanced Technology 1 credit Pre-requisite: General Technology Advanced Technology is for serious students wishing to expand their knowledge in the basic technologies that are used in our everyday world. The focus will be on advanced woodworking, where students will have the opportunity to build a piece of furniture. The course also includes sections of problem solving, manufacturing technologies, and residential home construction. Experts from local industry provide guest lectures which, in conjunction with field trips to local manufacturing operations and construction job sites, provide for an in-depth learning experience. Offered as needed.
I 300 Mechanical Drawing 1 credit Graphic communications, in many ways, is the language of industry. Manufacturing as well as service companies use technical drawing and illustrations to communicate internally as well as to customers and sup-pliers. While engineers and architects tend to be the originators of technical drawings, most fields need to be conversant in this area. Students who complete the Mechanical Drawing course will gain the knowledge and skills required for creating technical drawings on paper, using conventional drafting tools, as well as on electronic media, using our net-worked version of AutoCAD LT. Topics include multi-view drawings, dimensioning, sectional views, pictorial drawings, fasteners and assembly drawings.
I 400 Architectural Drawing (Independent Study) 1 credit Pre-requisite: B– in Mechanical Drawing or permission of teacher The purpose of Industrial Technology is not necessarily to teach a vocation, or merely the skills necessary to obtain a vocation, but to prepare all youth to use all their abilities, interests, and goals in service to God. This course is designed to be a second year course in the area of drawing. Prior to this, students will have learned the process necessary to produce various drawing. Now they will be taking that knowledge and applying it specifically to the production of drawings from which a home is built.
