Parents of Seniors:  A Financial Aid Information Meeting will be held January 19, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at SCCHS in the Media Center. If you will be filling out financial aid applications for the first time, you won’t want to miss this meeting.  Students are encouraged to attend with parents. This meeting is presented by Dordt College but the information will apply to all colleges.

Career Connection 2010—All sophomore students will attend Career Connections on January 12, 2010 at UW-Sheboygan from 9:15—11:30 a.m. This event will provide helpful information to get started on a career path for the future. Area business leaders will assist students as they explore sixteen identified career clusters during question and answer sessions. More information will be mailed home.

Selective Service—Virtually every man living in America is required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. Once registered, he stays eligible for programs and benefits connected to registration, such as college loans and grants, government jobs and job training. Selective Service now accepts early submission of registration information by 17 year old men. Selective Service holds their registration information and automatically enters their data into the system when they turn 18. The fastest way to register is online at www.sss.gov.

Lakeshore Health Care Alliance sponsors the Lakeshore Health Career Academy (www.lshca.org) for students in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties. The academy provides students attending high schools without a formal health career pathway the opportunity to explore health careers and prepare for higher education or employment through coursework and experiential learning. A limited number of grants are provided. More information and application forms are available in the Counseling Office.  Deadline for Spring Session is January 7, 2010.

Scholarship Application List—Seniors may pick up a list of scholarship availability in the Counseling Office. In the future this list will be available on the SCCHS website. Additions to the list are made as soon as Mrs. Smies receives information. All students do not meet qualifications for every scholarship offered but check the list carefully for those that do apply. Pay attention to deadline dates.

13.         Prayer before boys’ Varsity Basketball games:  Anyone is welcome to join a group of moms to pray before the boys’ varsity games. We cheer the team on as they enter the gym and then find a quiet place, away from attention, to offer up prayers for them.  We pray that the players will be lights, remain injury free, and do their best for God and for the fans to be encouragers. At home games, we meet between the music room and industrial arts room hallway.  At away games, we exit after the boys run in and find a place to gather. Anyone is welcome to join us in praise for this season.

14.         AN ICE MACHINE IS NEEDED by the athletic department.  If anyone is interested in donating one or if anyone is interested in donating monetarily, please contact Jon Westlund, our athletic director, by calling the school office 458-9981 ext. 305 or emailing jwestlund@scchs.com.

17.         “WE CARE” PICK ‘N SAVE PROGRAM:  The We Care program provides an easy way to raise additional funds for non-profit organization through supportive shoppers who use their Advantage Plus Savers Club card.  At the service desk, please designate SCCHS (# 711625) as your choice non-profit organization, so SCCHS will receive a cash rebate each time you use your Advantage Plus Savers Club card. The amount received is a percentage of the total amount of We Care dollars that Pick ‘n Save contributes.  Currently SCCHS has $28.73 in their “We Care” account – if you shop at Pick ‘n Save, please remember to use your Advantage Plus Savers Club card to help us reach $50, the minimum needed to receive a check.

18.         ANNUAL PARENT UNIVERSITY:  On February 22, 2010, SASD will be hosting the 2nd Annual Parent University. Parent University is a part of the District-wide Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention programming and is underwritten by a DPI grant.  It is designed to inform school age parents and other adults of the pivotal role they play in strengthening a child's positive behaviors.  Topics and speakers are selected to give participants the skills to accomplish this.

This event is open to all residents of Sheboygan County.  Since this is an open event, they would like to have input from parents throughout the county.  We encourage SCCHS parents to fill out a brief survey to help inform them of time preferences, topics, and speakers.  The survey can be found at http://www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us/surveys, click on the 2nd Annual Parent University Survey link.

19.         MOM’S IN TOUCH:  Let's "lift up holy hands in prayer." (1 Timothy 2:8)  We have something very special at Christian High – a Mom's In Touch International prayer ministry.  We welcome and invite all women associated with SCCHS to join us.  Even if you can't make it each week, please come when you are able.  We meet on Thursday mornings from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. and/or Fridays from 8:00 – 9:15 a.m. in the prayer room off the library.  If God has laid upon your heart a desire to pray for Christian High, please contact Sue Dykstra 564-4212 or susandykstra@wi.rr.com.  Quoted from Alvin Vander Griend's devotional Love to Pray, "What we need most for solving the problems in our society is not more money, more education, more ideas, books or strategies.  Our prime need is hands lifted up in prayer.  'We can accomplish far more by our prayers than by our work.  Prayer...can do anything God can do!  When we pray, God works' (The Kneeling Christian.)”
